WTF Moments
What You’ll Find Here:
✨ Real Stories — no sugarcoating, just the raw, ridiculous truth of caregiving.
✨ Mayfly Moments — quick reflections on how to find meaning in the madness.
✨ Soundtracks for Survival — because sometimes, you just need to crank the music and dance it out.
Because dementia is full of “did-that-really-just-happen?” moments.
Some days, it’s heartbreaking. Other days, it’s absurd enough to make you laugh until you cry. Most days? It’s both, sometimes all before lunch.
That’s why we share WTF Moments: real stories from the caregiving trenches. They’re messy, hilarious, and sometimes holy, the kind of moments you’ll never find in a Hallmark card, but that will make you feel less alone.
Why We Do This
Caregiving is hard enough without feeling like you’re the only one scrubbing poop out of a trash can or dodging naked hallway protests. (Yep, we’ve been there too.) Sharing these stories is how we survive — and how we remind each other that laughter and love still live here.
Laugh, Cry, WTF, Repeat

When I arrived tonight at Legacy, my mom was nowhere to be found. After a minor resident scavenger hunt, we discovered her cozied up for a nap on Norman’s bed, while Norman was reading and Jacquee tended to her baby doll. A full cast of characters doing their own version of “roommate sitcom meets memory care improv.”
We went out for a stroll in Hidden Hollow. The spring air was soft and warm, the creek was whispering, and Mom and I busted out some sidewalk twists and twirls.
And then… back inside, just outside my mom’s room, the housekeeper was crying. Bernadette—my mom’s 95-year-old neighbor and one of the unit’s most vibrant souls—had just passed away. Five minutes ago. The hall was thick with grief, but also with the strange stillness of a moment that hadn’t quite sunk in yet.
I helped Mom into the shower, needing something to do with my hands and heart. Right as the water ran over her shoulders, “Kiss” by Prince came on. And just like that, we were both smiling again—fresh as a daisy, rinsed in rose-scented soap and purple royalty.
This journey is heartbreak and hilarity. Grief and glitter. WTF and wow.
Mayfly Moment: If you only had 24 hours, how would you love them differently?
